By road

From Paris (610 km) : highway A6 then A40 towards Geneva, then towards Chamonix, Passy exit (only 12 km to the resort).

From Lyon (226 km) : A42 (Lyon-Pont d'Ain) then A40 towards Geneva, then towards Chamonix, Passy exit (only 12 km to the resort).
From Marseille (398 km) : A7 to Lyon then A42 (Lyon-Pont d'Ain) then A40 towards Geneva) then towards Chamonix, Passy exit; or A7 to Valence, then Valence-Grenoble (A 49), then A41 (Grenoble-La Roche sur Foron) then A40 to Chamonix, Passy exit (only 12 km to the resort).

 By train
Saint-Gervais le Fayet station (04 5078 45 64) 12 km from the resort.
Non stop trains from Paris, Lyon, Nice Marseille.
Non stop TGV from Paris on week end, TGV connection in Annecy, Aix-les Bains, Bellegarde.
Bus connection from the station (SAT, 04 50 78 05 33, timetables available at the Office du tourisme) or by taxi (taxis Besson, 04 50 93 61 47).

 Hiking
Vast possibilities of various difficulties and lengths. Path maps available at the Tourism Office (37 FF). The " baroque trail " (booklet on sale at the Tourism Office).
Trekking (sentiers de grande randonnée) : Mont-Blanc Region Tour (GR 44, 6 to 11 days); Mont-Blanc Tour (TMB).

 Rock Climbing
Rock climbing school at La Duchere (4.000 meters worth of climbing altogether, map on sale at the Tourism Office). Several other locations in the area.

 Mountain Climbing
Several classical climbs, particularly above the Tre-la-Tete glacier : Berangere needle, Tre-la-Tete needles, Domes de Miage, Bionassay needle, Mont-Blanc.
Four high mountain shelters : Tre-la-Tete (alt. 1.970 m.), Conscrits (alt. 2.600 m.), Plan Glacier (2.730 m.), Durier (3.358 m.).

 Mountain Biking
15 marked trails over Les Contamines and St Gervais, guide maps on sale (30 FF) at the Tourism Office.

 Other activities
Among others : trout fishing, Nature Reserve (04 50 47 16 62), hang gliding, canyoning, via ferrata, horseback riding, tennis, swimming pool, archery, driving range...

Alpine Skiing
26 skilifts from alt. 1.200 m. to 2.450 m. , 120 km of downhill trails (Les Contamines and Hauteluce), 6 ski slope restaurants. 50 certified ski instructors.

 Cross Country Skiing
: 26 km of maintained trails.

 Snowboard
All ski slopes are accessible by snowboards. Moguls stadium, half-pipe, boarder-cross, etc.

 Back Country Skiing
Several backcountry skiing classics, on the Beaufortain (Savoie) side as well as the Tre-la-Tete glacier basin.

 Ski mountaineering (racing)
The « Miage Contamines Somfy » is part of the nationwide ski mountaineering competition.

 Other activities
