Born in 2017 from a project led by the Compagnie des Guides de Saint-Gervais-Les Contamines in partnership with the town council, the refuge is part of a committed approach that respects its environment. The building has been designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape, with careful water management, the use of materials suited to the altitude and the use of renewable energies, thanks in particular to significant solar production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Refuge des Pr\u00e9s is one of those addresses that we recommend without hesitation to those who love the mountains in all their simplicity and authenticity. Nestled in the heart of the Les Contamines nature reserve, facing the Mont-Blanc range, it’s the ideal place for a break in the fresh air, a lunch in the sun or a night at altitude in an unspoilt natural setting. The trails that lead to it allow everyone to find their own pace, from family outings to more strenuous hikes. Along the way, it’s not unusual to come across chamois, ibex or marmots, and with a bit of luck, catch a glimpse of a golden eagle in flight. Here, the mountains are experienced to the full, in a protected and silent environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once there, settle in, take a breather and take your time. The refuge offers generous, comforting cuisine, ideal after exercise: hot dishes, homemade desserts and cold drinks to enjoy on the terrace when the weather permits. The atmosphere is simple, friendly and true to the spirit of mountain refuges: sharing tables, exchanging a few words, enjoying the moment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sleeping in a refuge: how does it work?<\/strong>Spending the night in a refuge is a true mountain experience. We generally sleep in shared dormitories with other hikers. Beds are equipped with mattresses, blankets and pillows. All you need to bring is a sheet and bag (often compulsory for hygiene reasons), as well as your personal belongings.Comfort is deliberately kept simple: shared sanitary facilities, sometimes without showers or with limited water, depending on the resources available. The idea is to adapt to life at altitude and enjoy a warm, collective atmosphere. In the evening, dinner is served at a fixed time, often around a large communal table, and then everyone quietly returns to their beds. Calm returns early, as the mountain sets its own pace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do I need to make a reservation?<\/strong>Yes, reservations are highly recommended, and even essential for overnight stays. Refuges have limited capacity and are often fully booked at weekends and during the vacations. Making a reservation also enables the wardens to anticipate meal times and organization.For a simple lunch, it’s sometimes possible to come without a reservation, but in busy periods, it’s better to call ahead to make sure you’ve got a place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much does it cost?<\/strong>Rates vary slightly depending on the season, but are indicative only:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Night in dormitory: generally between \u20ac20 and \u20ac35 per person<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Half-board (night + dinner + breakfast): approx. \u20ac45-70<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Lunch: around \u20ac15 to \u20ac25 depending on the dish<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Beverages and desserts: extra charge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    These rates can be explained by the constraints of altitude: everything has to be assembled on foot or by helicopter, and water and energy management requires special organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Opening times<\/strong>The refuge is generally open during the summer season, as well as during certain periods depending on snow conditions and access. Outside these dates, it may remain closed or accessible only in unguarded mode. Catering times may also vary according to attendance and weather conditions. It is therefore advisable to make enquiries before setting off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The refuge spirit<\/strong>Coming to Refuge des Pr\u00e9s means accepting a different way of experiencing the mountains: simpler, slower, more collective. You share the space, you save water, you take off your shoes at the entrance, you respect the quiet of the evening. In exchange, we enjoy a moment out of time, a sunset over the peaks, and a wake-up call facing the mountain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
