Experience the resort in winter: 1001 unforgettable activities

You could sum it up as skiing… but that would be missing the point. If you’re wondering what to do in Les Contamines-Montjoie in winter, the answer is simple: follow the Aubergistes Lyonnais mini guide!

It’s one of those rare resorts that’s almost more famous in summer than in winter, with the Tour du Mont Blanc and the famous UTMB. But winter also has its share of pleasant surprises.

Downhill skiing, of course

Let’s not beat around the bush: skiing in Les Contamines Montjoie is really enjoyable. There’s not a lot of waiting around, the slopes are varied, and above all, there’s a feeling of space that’s been lost elsewhere.

The area around Nivorin and the village center is perfect for learning at your leisure. Otherwise, the area offers a wide variety of pleasant red runs.

If you’re looking for ski lessons in Les Contamines Montjoie, we advise you to book in advance during the school vacations.

Nordic skiing: the luxury of silence

This is one of the village’s strong points. The Nordic ski area is located in the valley, at the bottom of Les Contamines, towards Notre-Dame de la Gorge. There’s plenty to see (especially if you’re an early riser: magnificent light and total silence)!

  • About 25 km of trails
  • Classics and skating
  • Incredible setting, between river and forest
  • Access: Le Pontet / La Gorge area
  • Fixed price: ~€10/day

Snowshoeing & hiking: a different way to enjoy the mountains

Snowshoe trekking is probably what we recommend most to those who don’t ski… or who want a change.

Here are a few concrete ideas:

  • Notre-Dame de la Gorge → accessible, magnificent
  • Groomed paths along the Bon Nant river
  • Guided outings

Allow €10-15/day for equipment hire.

Sled dogs & Nordic experiences

Yes, it’s a bit postcard-like… but it always works.
